The Victorians were captivated by the idea of sea serpents, so it was fitting to complete a homage to both my fascination with this beautiful era and the monster lurking within all of us. Essex has a rich history of water-serpent myths, water being a source of so much life, stillness and tranquillity; there is something undeniably beautiful about the idea of a massive serpent or dragon rearing up and out of its stillness. I have fought this dragon, as have we all, but there is such beauty in the struggle.
