Sheep River
There is a stunning beauty within the juxtaposition of life and death, what is raw with what is refined. A fragment of bone … masticated, gnarled, “grotesque” …. this natural element is easily missed within our landscape. However, when this same element is elevated from the surrounding landscape and placed within the transparency of glass, a beautiful sonnet emerges. Combine what is controlled with what is chaos and the results are breathtaking; whether this be installing a given work of art in the wilderness or bringing this same wilderness into a given space, shape or structure.
Nature is constantly evolving, shifting, transforming; an artist needs to embrace this process in order to breathe life into a given work of art. My larger scale sculptures are the result of many years weathering, experimenting, building, destroying and adapting. They are the visual narrative of my progression as an artist both in and out of studio.
